  2. Yes, same key was working just fine before this issue started few weeks ago. I just had the car towed to my mechanic we’ll see what happens.

  3. Are you using the factory key? The factory key has a chip in it and must be programmed to the vehicle.

  5. My dad is having problem with his 2001 Chevy Silverado. when my brother was going to park the truck he put the truck on the ignition where you just have the radio on and not the car, then he took out the key. my dad then my dad saw that it was on the radio position and he put the key in and then he put the ignition to off position but then it locked itself. we don`t know what is the problem but now we cant turn the truck on.

  6. Based on the info you gave me it sounds like it could be a bad ignition switch. To replace the ignition switch you will need to remove the lower instrument panel sub assembly, disconnect the ignition switch connector and unlock warning switch connector, remove the clamp, remove the two screws and ignition switch.

  7. 2002 Lexus ES300 – with no start. Fuse good, Battery tested good, alternator good, starter good. it doesn’t make any sound on starting or crank noise anymore. It gave me 4 start before going completely dead.

Headlight on doesn’t go dim stays the same when cranking to start which tend to be the ignition switch failure. Is that correct?

Anymore feedback on this would be appreciated or how to replace the Ignition Switch that would be helpful too.

  8. To remove the ignition from your 73 Beetle;
    Remove the steering wheel
Remove the turn signal and wiper switch
Unplug the wiring harness from the switch
Using a pick, depress the retaining spring on the lock cylinder
Remove the lock by turning the key and pulling the lock cylinder out of the housing

  10. The problem you’re having with 2001 Blazer sounds more like a possible neutral safety switch problem, not a ignition switch problem.

  12. @jeremys924 if you car has a resistor chip key its probably the small wires that connect to the key. MIne went bad in my 97 buick. its an easy fix just need to order the gm resistor pack easy find on ebay and jump out the wires with the right resistance and no more problems there are videos on here for that as well

  14. Check the fuse relay in the fuse box it might be an easy fix thats $10 and you can do it yourself just plug it in

  15. Here are a few common problems why ignitions switches are replaced; no crank, vehicle stalls, and dead battery. I hope this helps.

  16. What were the symptoms of the vehicle before the replacement? Im trying to figure out if i can fix my 99′ chevrolet start issue. it starts once in a blue moon. “key in; accesories; fule pump and HUD works fine; ON possition; lights and everything shuts off; no start.” i was told it could be the ignition switch and/or ignition key lock. I would rather get a third or fourth opinion. Send me a personal msg in regards to your expertise. Thank you!

  17. NEVER GO TO TOYOTA THEY CHARGE U $140 JUST FOR CHECK UP AND $130 FOR THE PART, AND THAT NOT INCLUDE HOW MUCH THEY WILL FIX IT AFTER EVERYTHING IS FIX.

  18. Thanks for the video, but I wish the reason/diagnostic behind the replacement was given. Knowing how to replace something is good knowledge to have. However, knowing why and when to replace something makes me a mechanic, not just a part replacer.

  19. if it’s so easy why do they charge hundreds of dollars to get it changed :(

  20. What’s the reason to replace the ignition switch? Because my 97 4runner ignition is wearing off? I believe so. Its very hard to start it because the keys can only turn to account not start. It only work after a million time of turning the keys. Will this solve the problem?

    siphornewifeyNovember 26, 2011 @ 1:25 pm
  21. Thank you for the general video! This give most mechanics an idea where & how the ignition switch is replaced.
